A Boat a Day (no.123)

A boat a Day no.123
I always think of myself as a very colourful person, so why do I own so much brown clothing? Oh well, it makes good ships.

A Boat a Day (no.122)

I love the colours on this boat, I saw this in a takeaway, I might have to recreate this use of neon.

A Boat a Day (no.121)

I used to do batik quite alot, without access to the proper equipment I had to settle with a wax crayon (or more accurately a candle) and some water colour. I am quite determined to find someone who can help me with some real batik before this year of Boats is over, but this will do until then. Drawing in white, on white is very hard so I kept it simple for now!

A Boat a Day (no.120)

Today's boat is another game boat, we had minecraft, now it's the Sims. So here is a little tour around my Houseboat-on-the-shore...

A boat a Day no.119
So I had no internet all day yesterday or today until now, except on my phone which was enough for me to send my boat out on facebook. I rely on the internet way too much! Anyway so this is yesterday's boat, today's will follow shortly.
Tis a Pie boat, or was, and very yummy too.

A Boat a Day (no.117)

Today is national "Don't spend money day!" How well have you done at not getting that cash out? I failed, but in my defense I didn't know you weren't supposed to spend money until after I'd bought my hot cross buns. Anyway, today's boat is a cash boat in honour of this odd festive day.

A Boat a Day (no.116)

Hallo!
It is pretty late, and it's been a very long day. I have been playing around with making videos, mostly just dance snippets in time to other music. Today's boat is an interesting bit of animation, which took hours!

A Boat a Day (no.114)

Evening,
A Boat a Day no.114
I am in the middle of the new JK Rowling book, and it's not what I expected, it's rather dark and a bit gritty and not even a shade of fantasy, certainly no wizards to speak of. Anyway today's boat is torn from a variety of scrap card. I managed to find some colours and textures. This is what I get up to now when I'm supposed to be tidying my studio.

A Boat a Day (no.113)

Hello,
A boat a Day no.113
today's boat is made from Forero Rocher wrappings, no help with this one except from my bottomless chocolate pit. I have an idea for a fun boat a day and would like some help from whoever reads this blog. Make a video of yourself or record yourself saying the word "boat" or singing, or singing or whatever you like. Just a few seconds clip and send it my way too Moonandmagic0@gmail.com you'll be part of something exciting :) x

A Boat a Day no.111
Good evening, today's boat is an odd-doodle, sort of symmetrical sort of abstract and done with a tricoloured biro and a ruler. I used to doodle like this all the time in my maths book, I loved the squares and how it put my usual spiralling style into a geometric grid. I think I've got some isometric paper somewhere, that'll be fun when I find it!

A Boat a Day  no.110
I have had a very quiet evening, which is unusual for my house. I have had a play with a few different ideas today and this is what I ended up with. It's sort of a Picasso/M C Escher inspired pattern. Anyway it's late and I must work on the morrow so good night. :)

Evening, today's boat is a couple of knitted shapes. It's been a while since I took up the needles and have to admit I forgot how to cast on and off! It's good to have a portable hobby.

A Boat a Day (no.108)

Today I looked after baby "Moshi" while Polly had a lovely massage. I had planned to do some knitting for my boat today but I found this instead and thought it was cool!

A Boat a Day no.107
Evening! I've been painting skin tonight, it makes a great canvas with ready mode contours and texture. Taz was very kind to let me scribble all over her with facepaint and hardly squirmed at all :)

A Boat a Day no.106
Well seen as today is Diwali I've lit a few candles, I had thought there were more but I had to resort to cake candles. I chose a blurry photograph because this many candles is quite bright and being able to see the tin foil bases, (oh and the bread support) kind of ruins the effect, plus I like the way the sails appear to be, well, sailing! :)

Hi there! I always like the keyboard pictures, I should probably start playing around with stars and swirls for my blogs and posts. But here is one I have made.

Malteasers are great! Except they have a tendency to roll away, sometimes into mouths. Taz has just pointed out that there are quite a few food boats, they just never get dull :)

A Boat a Day (no.103)

A Boat a Day no.103
Good evening, today's boat is a cut out of different layers, my knife is a bit blunt which made things a bit difficult.
I'm off to the harbourside market tomorrow which is very exciting. Better wrap up warm!

A Boat a Day (no.102)

A Boat a Day (no.102)
Good evening, I used to do doodles like this all the time when I was younger. but it had to be black and with specific pens, biros were just not good enough to get those sharp black lines. Taz pointed out that I can do a range of these as this ones just a sail boat, so maybe I'll churn out a few other types of boat in the future.

A Boat a Day (no.101)

It feels weird typing triple figures up there. Today is Taz's birthday so I have been working some magic in the kitchen in the form of cake...as always! I will post a photo tomorrow once she has seen it :) Seen as I made my sketchbook look so beautiful I had to christen it today with a bit of fan art, so for my Boat today meet Paragon, the Grumpy old Liveship from Robin Hobb's Liveship Trader's series, for those who haven't read it he is a living figurehead on an abandoned ship and he is well moody! Except when this mysterious lady is around. And if you haven't read them, you should they are brill! I had some good fun with my graphite pencils doing this and it feels good to have a book to doodle boats in. :)

A Boat a Day (no.100)

100 Days!
I can't believe I'm this far already, I sort of can't believe I have another 265 days left, how am I going to keep coming up with new ideas? So far I've had as many great ideas as I've had lame ones, I've had to post late twice and I've had a lot of fun. If someone was to ask me what I've already done I think it would take a while to remember, but if I could name five of my favourite they would have to be:
~*~ Lolly-pop fishing boat
~*~ Boat Trip
~*~ The Minecraft Boat
~*~ Pumpkin Boat
~*~ Singing about Boats with Heg Doughty and The Wolf Chorus
There are loads more I love, but these have to my elite for now, I should attempt to top them in the next 100 days. Please let me know what your five favourite are in the comments below.

So today's boat is the cover of my new sketchbook, to be dedicated to my boat project. I hope to have a physical diary of this project as well as this blog to use for exhibitions in the future, and for my own enjoyment.

A Boat a Day (no.99)
Here's one I made earlier. I was listing some jewellery on my Etsy and had completely forgotten about this boat as I made more than one on the same day. I really love the Nautical/Steampunk range, I'm not sure I can come up with something as good or better for the next range.

A Boat a Day no.98
Hello! Today's boat is an applique patch to go on the wallet I need to make, as mine has died a sudden death :( I made it with felt so no need to hem it or anything! yay!

A Boat a Day (no.96)

**Sigh**
It's good to be chilling in my jammas after a rather long day, this morning this little piggy went to market. It was cold! Very cold and within an hour and a half I had managed to drink an entire thermos of tea, (this equals 4 mugs!) It was an outdoor affair with some nice live music happening and plenty of kids. It wasn't the best day I've been to but it was good to be trading again. I suppose I would probably be less impressed if I had stayed till the end but work beckoned, and I am told nothing was sold after I left :( Ah well, I had a lot of interest and sold some of my christmas stock which makes me happy as i hardly get to see how that is received before it's put back into storage. It's my fault, I'm not on it enough to a) make loads of Christmas stock and b) go to markets every weekend in the run up.

Ah well, back to boats :) today's is a lazy one, I hope you'll excuse me. This is some sort of Ballast Seed Garden, built onto an old grain barge. You can see the details of the project here, but I just thought it was pretty cool. I'll have to take another look at a different time of year.

A Boat a Day (no.95)

A boat a day no.95
a bit shiny
There always seems to be a waypoint, I've just passed the quarter-way and now I'm approaching 100 days!

Anyway, today's boat has been decoupaged out of paper onto my old decrepit sewing box which I am revamping. It has been in a state of disrepair since I first inherited it about ten years ago, I gave it a coat of paint, being meticulous enough to take the lid and compartments off. However I misplaced the hinges for the doors and so they have been sitting in place unattached since then. More recently the legs got snapped and haphazardly fixed with wood glue and nails by my not-so-handy man. So today I gave myself two options, stick it out the front with a sign on for someone to forage or do it up and actually use it. I've gone for the more creative option, I began by taking the legs off and ripping out the lint-encrusted lining. In all it's nasty mint green-ness. I tore out the dividers too, as they are all the wrong size/shape for anything practical. After a quick sanding I dismantled the whole thing and began decoupaging with remnants of old gift wrap, the pretty tissue kind that I've been hoarding forever! For now this is where it lies, in pieces drying.
